Proud to Be
Family-Owned and Operated
For 60 Years
In 1963, John Robert Meredith set forth with the help of his wife, Barbara Rotheram Meredith, to create Coins Inc., a dealer in rare coins and precious metals. The dream began with a single leased retail space within Gimbel’s department store. The Meredith Family's hard work, vision and commitment to honesty, integrity and excellent customer service helped to establish where Treasure Hunt is today. With the closing of Gimbel’s in 1986, Coins Inc. successfully relocated to Kaufmann’s, one of Pittsburgh’s most popular and thriving department stores at the time. During this period, Coins Inc. locations were also opened in Columbus, Ohio, Chicago, Illinois, Arlington, Virginia, and Washington DC.
With the passing of John R. Meredith in 1995, his son, John Rotheram Meredith purchased the company from the estate, filling the role of President and appointed his sister, Jeannette Meredith as Vice President. John’s passion for coins and determination to continue what his father started inspired him to move the company forward and relocate base operations to the South Hills. Over the next 20 years, John captured the opportunity for expansion within the Pittsburgh area. Evolving from coins and precious metals, to incorporate jewelry and diamonds as well, Treasure Hunt currently has 11 locations in the greater Pittsburgh area: Belle Vernon, Cranberry, Fox Chapel, Greensburg, Irwin, McKnight, Monroeville, Morgantown, Robinson, South Hills and Washington.
